As any tech savvy person knows, net neutrality is vital if we want to have any kind of equality of access on the information/communication system we use 24/7. The Republican controlled FCC recently made changes to the net neutrality rules that would, of course, benefit corporations and special interests, leaving the American public to pay the price. Recently, all 49 Dems (who had to use a special rule to force the vote) and 3 brave Republicans voted in the Senate to repeal the changes. But before anyone celebrates, the measure now goes to the House, where it will die on the floor, since there’s no way Mitch McConnell (think Mr. Burns on The Simpsons) will let it come up for a vote. And if, by some miracle, McConnell grew a heart and a whiff of integrity, there’s no way Trump would sign the measure. I say “net neutrality now” even though I realize that nothing’s going to happen till we make some changes in Washington.
As Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer said, “The Democratic position is very simple. Let’s treat the internet like the public good that it is.” I just want to remind everyone that this is just one more reason to go to the polls in 2018 and vote blue. So spread the word about this important issue that impacts all of us. As Schumer also said, “At stake is the future of the internet.” Progressives unite; push forward.
