“The reality is, for every parent who is not located, there will be a permanently orphaned child, and that is 100 percent the responsibility of the administration.” U.S. District Judge Dana M. Sabraw to the federal government. As of August 1st, 572 children remain separated from their parents.
The whole court-ordered family reunification is a chaotic disaster with sinister undertones of behind-the-scenes maneuverings to cover up how majorly the Trump administration messed up. This whole operation was staged highly under cover with almost no access to facilities to anyone from the press to Democratic representatives trying to find out what was really going on. Records have “disappeared” or “destroyed” or never existed in the first place. A number of children have been simply lost track of. And for hundreds of families, after they separated the kids from parents, (including babies and toddlers) and caged them for a while, they then returned the parents to their home countries…but without their children. (A punishment tactic by Trump/Sessions cruel policies.) Now, it seems the government has no clue where most of these parents are, not having a protocol in place to keep track of them. Ergo, looks like there are going to be a lot of sad, orphaned kids. Thanks Mr. Trump.
Doctors, child care specialists, and mental health professionals of all forms are warning repeatedly how damaging and toxic these horrific experiences are for the children and how many of them will be scarred for life.
And to top it all off, the government actually proposes that the ACLU take on the task of solving the humongous problem in order to satisfy the court order against the government since they are unable to. The irony is staggering.
So, this November when you go to vote…and I hope you will, remember this post. Let’s have a blue wave in 2018, end these policies, and bring some humanity back to America.
