Trump claims he’s an expert on defense. “There’s nobody bigger or better at the military than I am.” “There is nobody who understands the horror of nuclear more than me,” and “I know more about ISIS than the generals do.” What WE know is that he doesn’t read his intelligence briefings from experts and that he gets his advice from Fox News TV talk-show hosts. I feel so safe now.
Tuesday, a panel of top intelligence people, including Trump’s director of national intelligence, CIA director, FBI director, DIA director, NSA director and more, testified before the Senate after releasing their annual report on security threats. The report and their testimonies contradicted many of Trump’s false claims and outright lies.
This made the mad king angry and he threw his usual tweet-storm tantrum, calling his intelligence people “extremely passive and naive,” suggesting that they “should go back to school.” The distance between Trump’s claims and the expert’s testimony and report has ignited political debates in Washington. It IS our national security, after all. But will the GOP Senate step up? Yeah, right…
I love the TV series, ‘MADAME SECRETARY.’ The plot centers on a democratic White House staff and how they deal with the crises that arise, focusing on the Secretary of State, played by Tia Leoni. It’s fiction sure. But each week, an issue that needs handling with expert advice and kid gloves is based on real possibilities that either have happened or easily could happen. And as I watch all these brilliant, educated, well-meaning experts move Heaven and Earth to resolve seemingly impossible and scary situations, I think of Trump, Trump Jr., Ivanka, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Kellyanne Conway, Pompeo and that warmongering John Bolton running around the White House, facing even the mildest of actual threats. It makes me all the more determined to do whatever I can to make sure we get some grown-ups who utilize actual experts, facts and reality in the White House come 2020.
Until then? I’m hoping Mueller takes Trump out in some form or fashion before something really scary happens. Trump’s a time bomb. Let’s defuse him before he detonates completely. @blueravenartist
