cracked until coffee

Americans consume the most coffee in the world over all and the number of Americans who drink coffee daily has hit a 6-year high.  According to REUTERS, 64% of American adults said they drank coffee daily in 2018, up from 62% in 2017.  2% might not seem like a huge hike in a year, but since the U.S. population is currently 328,392,160, that means an uptick of 6,567,842 more people drinking coffee daily. I wonder why? Could it be that with all that’s going on, it’s getting harder and harder to get up in the morning? Could it be that more and more of us need that little kick to face whatever new news is going to kick us in the face? I know I do.

Times are crazy right now. Power mongers are creating chaos and pitting us against each other because doing so helps cement their power. We can’t let them win. We’re all in this together. Let’s take the steps that will allow us to reverse course and come together as Americans, as the Human race.

"When did we see each other face-to-face? Not until you saw into my cracks and I saw into yours. Before that, we were just looking at ideas of each other, like looking at your window shade but never seeing inside. But once the vessel cracks, the light can get in. The light can get out." - John Green, 'Paper Towns

People are waking up, and not just to smell the coffee. People are waking up to the realization that we are all one people and if we don’t clean up our act, humanity is in for some harsh realities. Some days it’s really hard to get out of bed and the thought of that warm mug in my hands and the kick of energy I know I’ll feel, sure helps get things going. I still hope we can turn things around. I still hope we can learn to “see each other face-to-face” and find that we’re all part of the human race. Until then, I need that little kick in the morning to get going. As it is, I’m still a little cracked until coffee. I’m hoping to let in some light. How about you?
